Our Story

Jem is the founder, heart, and hands behind The Beauty Jem – a beauty studio in North Delta and East Vancouver built on the belief that confidence starts with feeling at home in your own skin.

Jem’s story starts with her teens, and with them, acne. For years, the mirror stopped being fun. She tried everything: harsh scrubs, drying treatments, products that promised clear skin and left hers worse. She learned to hide under layers of makeup, and she learned how much your skin can shape the way you walk into a room.

​

That experience is why she chose the path she did. Like many daughters of immigrant parents, she took the safe route first, enrolling in a Bachelor of Science at UBC with medicine and, eventually, dermatology in mind. A year and a half in, she felt the ache of misalignment. The goal was still the same: helping people feel confident in their own skin. But the path meant years more of lectures and labs before she could do it, and she wanted to be in the room with someone now, with her hands, where she could actually see the difference she was making.

In early 2023, that clarity arrived through lashes. What started as a personal self-care ritual gave her back a feeling she’d been missing for years. She enrolled in her first professional lash class, unsure of the journey ahead but certain of the calling, and The Beauty Jem was born.

 

But skin was always where the story started, and it’s where it was always going to return. Jem trained in Korean skin treatments rooted in barrier repair, hydration, and treating skin with care instead of punishment. She’s been on both sides of the treatment bed, and she knows what it means when someone finally tells you your skin isn’t a problem to fix, just something to understand.

Today, The Beauty Jem has grown into a trusted destination for women across Greater Vancouver, offering Korean glass skin facials, Korean lash lifts, keratin brow lamination, and custom lash extensions. Every treatment is designed to enhance your natural features, protect your long-term skin health, and fit into a life that doesn’t have time for high maintenance.

 

But to Jem, it’s never just about the facials, lashes, or brows. It’s the hour-long conversations. The laughs, the tears, the unfiltered girl talk. It’s the moment a client looks in the mirror, sees herself, and feels beautiful.
