What Is a Korean Glass Skin Facial? | Vancouver Guide

If you have been searching for a Korean glass skin facial in Vancouver, you have likely seen the look everywhere. Smooth, hydrated skin that catches the light and looks healthy without makeup. It is one of the most requested results at our studio, and also one of the most misunderstood.

This guide explains what glass skin really means, what happens during the facial, what the research says about each step, and how to know if it is right for you.

What Does "Glass Skin" Actually Mean?

Glass skin is one of the most recognizable trends to come out of Korean beauty. According to WebMD, some beauty experts describe it as skin that looks "molded from glass." Think a smooth surface, a balanced complexion, and a fresh, hydrated sheen that catches the light.

WebMD also points out that the look has nothing to do with makeup. It starts with how you care for your skin, and hydration is the main idea behind it. Well-moisturized skin looks fuller and reflects more light.

So glass skin comes down to two things: smooth skin and hydrated skin. It is not about being perfect. Pores are a normal part of healthy skin, and no facial makes them disappear. A good facial can clean them out, help them look smaller, and help your skin hold on to moisture.

What Is a Korean Glass Skin Facial?

At The Beauty Jem, the Korean Glass Skin Facial is an advanced glow treatment built around that same idea. We smooth the surface of the skin first, then deeply hydrate it. Every facial is customized, and each one follows these steps:

  1. Double cleanse to remove makeup, sunscreen, and oil

  2. Dermaplaning to gently remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz

  3. Hydrodermabrasion to cleanse the pores, exfoliate, and infuse hydrating serums

  4. Customized mask to calm and restore the skin

  5. LED light therapy to support the skin after treatment

  6. Protective skincare, including SPF, to finish

Why These Steps Work Together

Dermaplaning smooths the surface

Dermaplaning uses a small blade to gently remove the top layer of dead skin along with peach fuzz. Cleveland Clinic lists dull or dry skin and peach fuzz among the reasons people choose it. They also note that it can help skin look smoother and healthier.

At our studio, we perform dermaplaning as part of our Korean Glass Skin Facial treatment. It only works on the very surface of the skin, so there is no downtime. Clients often tell us their skin has never felt so soft, and that their makeup sits better afterward.

Hydrodermabrasion cleans and hydrates together

Hydrodermabrasion uses water and light suction to clean out the pores, remove dead skin, and deliver hydrating serums. You may know the brand-name version, the HydraFacial.

In a 2024 study in Skin Research and Technology, researchers used a special skin-imaging camera on eight volunteers before and after treatment. Right after, the outer layer of dead skin was thinner and looked more even. Two weeks later, that layer had returned to normal.

In simple terms, the treatment smooths the surface gently, and the skin bounces back on its own. It was a small study, but it matches what we see every day. It is also why regular appointments matter more than a single visit.

LED light therapy calms the skin

We finish with LED light therapy, which uses coloured light to support the skin. Cleveland Clinic explains that red light may help calm inflammation and support collagen, the protein that keeps skin looking youthful. Blue light may help fight acne-causing bacteria.

LED does not use UV light, so it does not burn or damage the skin. It is painless, and it works for every skin type and skin tone.

Who Is This Facial Best For?

This facial is a great fit if you have:

  • Dull or tired-looking skin

  • Rough or uneven texture

  • Dry or dehydrated skin

  • Uneven skin tone

  • Makeup that never sits smoothly

It is also lovely before a wedding, photoshoot, or special event, or as part of a regular glow routine.

This facial is not recommended for those with active acne, eczema flareups, open cuts, sunburned skin, or any other active skin condition. If any of these apply to you, please let us know before your appointment. We can adjust the treatment or recommend a facial better suited to where your skin is today.

What to Expect After Your Facial

Most clients leave with skin that feels softer and looks brighter the same day. There is no downtime, so you can get right back to your day.

For the first few days, we recommend:

  • Wearing SPF every day and limiting direct sun.

  • Keeping your skincare simple and hydrating

  • Pausing retinol and exfoliating acids for at least 7 days

  • Skipping heavy makeup for the first 24 hours after your facial appointment, if you can

How Often Should You Book?

One facial gives your skin a beautiful glow. Lasting results come from consistency. We recommend coming in for our Korean Glass Skin Facial every 4 to 6 weeks, along with a home routine that suits your skin. We often say results are 30% us and 70% you. What you do between appointments keeps the glow going.
